Grammy Award-winning musician and Nigerian sensation Wizkid talked candidly about his artistic journey in an exclusive conversation with BBC Radio 1Xtra. He emphasized that he sees himself as at the beginning of his music career rather than the end.
The well-known performer, real name Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, offered a modest assessment of his accomplishments to date, saying, “The journey is about to begin for Wizkid. I don’t see myself as someone who has achieved something major yet. For me, music is a forever thing.”
Wizkid’s journey began when he was just 11 years old, when he and his church friends co-founded the group Glorious Five. This was the beginning of his incredible rise in the industry.
In 2009, Wizkid signed with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E), which was a turning point in his career and resulted in the release of his debut studio album, “Superstar,” which shot him to fame in 2011.
Wizkid is well-known for chart-toppers like “Holla at Your Boy,” “Ojuelegba,” and the worldwide smash hit “Essence.” His talent knows no bounds, and he has won over 50 prestigious awards, including the Grammy Award for Best Music Video for his song “Brown Skin Girl.”
